Turning Up The Heat On The New Cold War

This weekend Donald Trump, President of the United States, made the following remarks :

It seems that Pyongyang has had enough of this posturing and brinkmanship, and issued the following statement, via Ri Yong-ho, the North Korean Foreign Minister :

“Last weekend Trump claimed that our leadership would not be around much longer and hence at last has declared war on us”

Mr Yong-ho continued,

“Because this comes from the current president of the United States, this is clearly a declaration of war.
Since the United States [has] declared war on us, we will have every right to take countermeasures including the right to shoot down United States strategic bombers even when they are not inside the airspace of our country”

Mr Yong-ho finished by saying,

“In light on the declaration of war by Trump, all options will be on the operations table of the Supreme Leadership of the DPRK.”

“The question of who won’t be around much longer will be answered then.”

Despite President Trump’s comments, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said at a press briefing on Monday afternoon :

“We have not declared war on North Korea and the suggestion of that is absurd.”

And when questioned about North Korea’s threats to shoot down United States strategic bombers, Sanders replied :

” It’s never appropriate for a country to shoot down another countries aircraft while it’s over international waters.”
“Our goal is still the same we continue to seek the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, doing that through the maximum economic and diplomatic pressures at the moment.”

However, even with these assurances from the White House, Pentagon Spokesman Colonel Robert Manning has said :

“If North Korea does not stop their provocative actions, we will make sure that we provide options to the President to deal with North Korea.”

We can only hope that this new looming nuclear destruction we are facing can be averted by diplomatic means.

For over 30 years now I have lived in Australia, and for some time I have been left to my own devices to do as I wish. Apparently it is called being an adult. So I go about exploring both the environs I find myself in, but also some of the deeper questions of existence. And there are also puns. Currently based in Brisbane, I plan to explore more of Australia, and more of the mysteries of the universe!
